Glitter Stencil Cards

Jac Double Sided Adhesive Paper

One of my local customers Nola came in to the store and showed me how to make these very simple and effective cards. These cards are done using a simple technique that requires Jac Double Sided Adhesive Paper, Stencils and Glitter. Many thanks to Nola for her patience teaching me and inspiring me to get this workshop done to pass on to my other customers.

To make glitter cards you will need the following items:

Cardstock, Jac Double sided adhesive paper, Stencils, Glitter, Stippling Brush, Low Tac Adhesive Tape and pictures if you require them.

Cut out a piece of Jac paper the size of your stencil. (It is a good idea to line up all your elements on your card first just to make sure they fit where you want them).

Take one side of the of the protective paper off your cut out Jac sheet and stick down onto your card.

Cover both sides of the hanging hole at the top of the stencil if it has one and then lay the stencil rough side down onto the adhesive paper. Don’t press it down really hard as you need to remove it later.

I used low tac tape to cover the elements on the stencil that I wanted to be a different color.

Put the whole card onto a piece of A4 paper that you have creased in the middle, this will help you return left over glitter back into its pot. Pour glitter generously onto the exposed areas of the stencil. The finer the glitter the better the look.

Use the stipple brush to push the glitter all over the exposed areas and then gently dab into the shapes on the stencil pushing the glitter down firmly.

Turn the card over and tap on the back to remove the excess glitter. Also use the stipple brush to remove excess glitter from the card and stencil that tapping does not remove. Return the excess glitter back to its pot.

Remove the low tac tape to expose the next area that you want to put glitter on.

Use the same method above to fill in the second area of the stencil.

Lift the stencil off the card gently and then use a transparent or white glitter all over the remaining exposed Jac paper.

Use the stipple brush again to even the glitter out and press down into all the areas. Your end result will look something like this.

I added a frame sticker and 3D picture to my card.

2 Corner stickers, a wavy line border and a text sticker and the card is completed.

This is another larger background stencil I used to create a wedding card using exactly the same method.

You can use any stencil you like, be it brass or plastic. Check your Bunnings store and $2 discount stores for plastic ones, some of them are quite nice and have great pictures so suitable for cardmaking.

You don’t have to use a 3D picture, the cards are quite spectacular without any extra embellishments. I did a tulip stencil in the center of a card with Nola and just need to add a line border around the edge to complete it.

A good range of colors in glitter is a great start and the finer they are the better the finished picture.
